Choose three different media products covering three different media.
Outline two target audiences for each.
Walking Dead TV Show- Fans of the horror genre/zombies and fans of Andrew Lincoln.
Mens Fitness magazine- People interested in getting fit and gaining muscle and males interested in grooming themselves, making them selves look more attractive.
Flash TV Show- Fans of the flash and DC Comic fans.
Using your own examples, (3 minimum) outline how audiences respond differently.
Trailer for nike trainers- Target audiences have different responses because of what they agree and what they disagree with. The trailer advertised will appeal to some people and make their active response to go out and buy them with no problems with pricing, this is a dominant response because the target audience is agreeing with the fact that the trainers are not only great looking but also great in price. However another target audience may think the trainers are great looking however they may not be worth the price they are advertised at, this is an negotiated response. The final way a target audience may respond is by having an oppositional response, this is where the target audience does not agree they are nice looking trainers and do not agree with the pricing. The response for this type of target audience would be an inactive one because the target audience has not gone out and bought the trainers advertised.
Flash TV show- This is another media where different target audiences react and respond differently, the dominant response for this particular TV show is that the show is a good representation of the renowned comic book hero The Flash, it has good characters and it made very well. This may not be everyones response as people may agree it is a good representation and that it is entertaining however may not agree it is made well. Some scenes come out as very corny and the show sometimes has terrible costume and cgi. This is my personal negotiated response. Another target audience may not agree it is a good show, entertaining and that is has a good meaning they may also not agree the characters are good along with them feeling the show is not entertaining this is an oppositional response for the Flash TV show.
Eastenders- Target audience respond differently to Eastenders because one type of target audience may feel that the soap is made very well, it is entertaining and is realistic. This is having a dominant response

Mock Exam Revision
This follows the codes and conventions of a magazine very closely, it has a masthead, pug, date, headline, sub articles and a feature article photograph. The magazine is very well known as the photograph is over the masthead, this shows they are confident in their magazine and that it is well known
The colours such as yellow and pink are a typical stereotypical set of colours for a general women's magazine, it connotes gentleness, care and love. However the colours such as black connote strength, power and formality this is a juxtaposition from the pink and yellow background. In the photograph Beyonce is holding her hips with one hand this shows she has an attitude, she is confident and she is independent. She is also dressed in all black again to show she is confident and powerful. She looks very beautiful and is showing cleavage and has her dress raised supporting the stereotype that all women are used for sex etc.
The language used is very informal and slightly humours, things such as 'never lose your orgasm again' and '10 times its okay to be a bitch' show this is a very informal and sort of gossipy magazine.
The target audience for this magazine are female adults that are quiet sophisticated, sort of how Beyonce is portrayed on the magazine, it attracts this certain type of audience because it can relate to them and they feel like they have to buy it. The magazine is clearly related to mainly sex and relationships because of the language used and therefore can attract another target audience that may want to impress their boyfriend or husband and be like Beyonce or are genuinely interested in what makes a woman attractive. The language used such as 'Tight butt, abs & thighs' make women think that the only way to look good or be accepted into society is to have these things and the fact Beyonce is used makes them also think that she is the perfect woman and is an ideal model to look up to. The shot of Beyonce is of her upper body, it isn't a close up shot they have done this to show off the beautiful expensive dress she is wearing and to show her strong posture. Beyonce is portrayed as the ideal woman and make other women aspire to be like her, this can be good in many ways however it can be a bad thing because if a woman isn't rich, beautiful, young they may feel like society doesn't accept them because they don't look like that, this magazine suggests if you look like Beyonce you can have a good relationship, good sex an overall good life because of the way you look, however if you don't look beautiful, a good body then there is no hope for you.
The layout of this magazine focuses our eyes on the feature article photograph because the image is very large and in the middle. The fact that the photograph is from the hips up makes the target audience focus on her dress. The masthead is behind the feature article photograph because the magazine producers are confident that their magazine is popular and well known.
CONTINUATION WORK-
Identify two target audiences for this magazine-
One of the target audiences for this magazine are women aged 21-35 this is because the language used is more sophisticated and is more suitable for a older target audience. Another target audience are women that are generally interested in things such as relationships, sex and having a good lifestyle, the magazine is all about how to be glamorous and is well suited to a general sort of target audience.
Take one of these audiences and explain how the producers have targeted that audience-
The producers have targeted the age group 21-34 because of the language they use. The language is informal yet is very sophisticated and not so much as posh but also not middle class, sort of in between. The language used such as "60 sex skills" and "10 times it's okay to be a bitch" are clearly not for a younger target audience. The producers have targeted this target audience by using the appropriate content women crave such as wanting tips on how to be beautiful, providing information on how to make them selves look and feel better. The magazine also uses girly colours such as pinks and yellows this again attracts a more feminine target audience.

The opening scene starts off with a medium shot and slowly turns into a long shot this is to set the environment she is in. This is also a tracking shot however the camera isn't moving so its static. It then moves to a close-up low angle shot of Wendy looking at the typewriter to show the reaction of what is on the typewriter. In then turns into a POV from Wendy looking down onto the typewriter (high angled shot) this is to show what Wendy is reacting and looking at. The camera shot goes back to a low angled close up shot of Wendy, this is until she looks towards her left which is where the zoom-in occurs. As Wendy is moving closer the camera zooms in further and further until its an extreme POV close-up of the stack of paper. The effect of this is to show Wendy's horrific realisation of what her husband has been working on whilst she isn't around. The camera shot used when Jack walks into the room is a track shot and then it turns into an over the shoulder shot. This makes us feel uncomfortable because Jack is creeping up on his own wife being very weird and abnormal.

Different target audiences
2a Choose one of the magazine front covers. suggest two different audience for this magazine. Give brief reasons for your choice.
The psychographic target audience for the "Mens Health" magazine is teenage boys aspiring to a healthy lifestyle and gaining muscle. I have chosen this target audience because of the language used on the magazine, such as 'The Bad Lad's Fitness Plan' shows it's quiet an informal magazine and the phrase encourages typical teenage interests. The colour red has been used in the masthead 'Men's Health' and secondary articles such as 'The 9 to 5 Six-pack; and 'Hard Muscle Made Easy' connotes energy and power. The secondary articles being the same colour as the masthead means they all link together, doing things fast and getting quick results The model is positioned in the centre of the front cover, being the main focus point. He is the only picture image and is published in black and white, with no top on to show his toned body. The fact that shadows cast over his stomach adds definition and draws attention to the fact he is toned. This would be something a teenager would aspire to be. The demographic audience would be male teenagers aged (15-19)
Another target audience would be gay men the reason i have chosen this target audience is because of the model the magazine has chosen. The model on the magazine has a feminine appearance with his heightened cheek bones and his stance, with his head held to one side. Furthermore, he has a clean shaven body and the fact he doesn't have a stereotypical 'manly' face with maybe a beard of marks on his face, implies that he will attract a homosexual audience.
The fact that the model is shirtless with definition in his muscles adds 'sex appeal' to the magazine, attracting the gay target audience.
The model is looking into the readers eyes, this mode of address is directly inviting the target audience in. The model also has his pants quiet low, being slightly revealing showing his v-lines which can be very appealing to a gay target audience. The demographic audience will be male, age (20-29)
2b Using the same magazine front cover chosen for 2 (a), explain how the main audience for this magazine has been targeted.

Analytical task- Hawaii Five O
How does the programme show the crime drama genre?
The programme follows the crime drama genre because it has typical features such as guns, police cars, crime scenes we also have chase scenes and helicopters. The typical kind of characters involved are villains, in this case the prisoner that Chin Ho fights within the prison this particular villain is a fallen cop that turned bad a very typical crime drama character and the so called police guard, the hero being Chin Ho, ambiguous characters such as the prisoner who helped Chin Ho, and Kono Kalakua's boyfriend. These types of characters are undecided about which side they are on (heroes or villains) and finally the helpers these are the characters back at the lab scanning finger prints and giving high tech equipment out to our main characters and people running facial recognition.
Does the episode follow a recognisable narrative structure? (Todorov or McKee)?
Does the episode follow a recognisable narrative structure? (Todorov or McKee)?
The episode follows Todorov's narrative theory in Chin's point of view because the the equilibrium is Chin being at home in bed at peace and the disruption then happens which is the 2 men breaking into his house and placing him in prison. The recognition then happens when the rest of the police force find out he is missing and the reparation is where they then break him back out of prison and then the restoration where Chin is safely recovering in hospital. On the other hand it may follow Robert Mckee's theory a little bit better, the inciting incident- the 2 men breaking into his house
progressive complications- He gets drugged and wakes up in a prison cell
crisis- he realises he is in prison with people that put him there
climax- not only does he realise this, all the prisoners escape and cause a riot. After being stabbed when hes finally caught the resolution then happens which is his team rescuing him from the prison. Although Chin's point of view follows mainly Roberts Mckee's theory the actual main episode it self starts off in the middle goes to back to the start and all the way through to the end, this adds another level of interest because it keeps the audience asking questions about why this happened and what will happen next.
How does the programme use enigmas?
During this episode the main enigma is the opening scene where a person gets shot and the other gets arrested, this starts to stir up some questions about what is happening and makes the audience want to watch the rest of the episode. Another enigma is the actual character helping Chin escape this stirs questions up as to why he is helping and what purpose does it serve, another moment this happens is when he escapes the prison, how does he do it? these are the type of mysteries that keeps the audience engaged and asking questions. The episode also uses enigmas in the Adam and Kono scene by making the audience wonder if Adam is really a trustworthy character this makes the audience want to watch the next episode and keep them excited for it
What evidence is there of both series and a serial (series tell a different story each episode, serials have on going stories (like Soap Operas)
Hawaii Five O is both a serial and a series because in the episode the series side to it is Chins's story of him getting drugged and thrown into prison and eventually getting out. However it also had some on going stories such as the bad ex cop that made a comeback that was locked away in a previous episodes. Another example of it being a serial is Kono's boyfriend a sort of side story, this carries on for a number of episodes as at the end of the episode leaves a sort of cliffhanger letting the story carry on in the next episode.

Magazine Codes and Conventions
This magazine cover follows the codes and conventions of a magazine because it has a masthead at the top (mens fitness) it has a barcode in the bottom right, it has a headline (lose your gut). This magazine cover also has a puff below the masthead (everything for every man), it has a feature article photograph (Arnold Schwarzenegger) it has lots of secondary articles and a price on the barcode. it has a pug at the top (special report & Arnold's plan to beat obesity). The image also follows code and conventions as it is very large and in the centre, the actor is also looking straight into the audiences eyes. The mode of address for this magazine is informal as they address people by their first names, its also informal because it has words such as sex. The mode of address is also uplifting and engaging because of its use of bright colours such as yellows and reds. By the words and colours and use of actor you can tell that this a mens magazine as it invites men to join in with the banter.

Connotations
The connotations of silhouetted man indicates he is a mysterious man, and that he has something to hide, the colour black shows that he is a dark and powerful character and red shows he is a killer, and the way the red is done looks like blood going down a wall or screen. His body language shows that he is quiet confident in what he does. His suit also shows he is a formal character and has no time for games.
The image of a mysterious hooded man connotes that he is a secretive man and he is trying to hide his identity, the blades in his hands indicate he is a killer and the fact that they are hidden also shows he is some sort of an assassin. The man is also dressed in white and red, the red connoting blood, again that he is a killer and that he is quiet an emotionally intense character. The white connoting he is a pure and good character. The word creed indicates the man has some sort of religious belief in what he is doing and him wearing white makes it seem as though his is some sort of angel or guardian cleansing everything as he passes.
